Starla Muhammad is co-host of Closing The Gap and joined the popular show in early 2021. She also serves as managing editor of The Final Call newspaper. She began her career with the influential award-winning Black weekly as a freelance writer then contributing writer. She came on board as a staff writer in October 2010 and became an assistant editor in 2013. She was appointed managing editor in 2016.
Sister Starla has covered and written on a broad range of issues in economics, religion, politics, social justice, arts and entertainment and much more. She has had the pleasure of interviewing the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan, hip hop legend Busta Rhymes, author and radio personality Charlamagne tha God, economist and author Dr. Julianne Malveaux, activist and academic Dr. Marc Lamont Hill, and many other activists, artists and luminaries. In addition to The Final Call her articles have published in Source Magazine, and various Black-owned newspapers around the country.
She is from Columbus, Ohio, is a graduate of The Ohio State University and holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism.
Sister Starla became a student and follower of the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad under the guidance and leadership of the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan in 1995 at Mosque No. 43 in Columbus, Ohio. She has labored in a variety of capacities in the Nation of Islam including the posts of: squad leader, lieutenant, first officer, MGT & GCC student captain, secretarial staff and orientation instructress.
Sister Starla is happily married to Brother Bernard K. Muhammad and is the proud mother of a son, Yusef.
Brother Chad Muhammad is a native of Tampa, Florida. He was introduced to the teachings of the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad as taught by the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan in 1993 becoming a registered member in 1994. Brother Chad is a husband of 23 years and a loving father of 3. He has served in the prison reform ministry, as a student record keeper, student F.O.I. coordinator, student F.O.I. captain in the cities of Tampa and St. Petersburg, Florida. He now serves as the Student Minister of Mosque 47. Brother Chad is humble and honored to serve first and foremost as a brother and fellow believer! In the city of Tampa, Florida he has developed a working relationship with the local chapter of the NAACP, the COACH foundation, Tampa Hillsborough Action Plan Inc., and other local programs and grassroots organizations who work on behalf of the liberation of our people in the city of Tampa.
Bro. Michael Shabazz is Production Manager of Closing the Gap Broadcast Network. The oldest of nine children, Shabazz grew up in Staten Island NY and was first introduced to Islam from his step father, Radi Shabazz. He accepted Islam at the age of 13 and years later joined the Nation of Islam in 1999. Brother Michael is a proud father of two sons, Tajj & Elijah, and married to his college sweetheart, Regina.
Now residing in Tampa FL, Michael Shabazz is currently serves as the Student Secretary of newly re-established Muhammad Mosque #47 and real estate counsultant for the NOI 7th Region. A community businessman . Shabazz is cofounder & CEO of Team Blessed Realtors. He is affectional know as " Realtor to the God’s " due to his instrumental role in helping many Believers and hundreds of families achieve economic improvement via home ownership. Prior to building a thriving real estate business, Bro Michael was a middle school mathematics teacher and currently serves as a board member of Legacy Preparatory School. Lastly he is an alumni of NY State University of New Paltz College, where he co founded The Joseph Wade Green Boys to Men Association and dedicated over 20 years of community service as a brother of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity.
Sis. Shelah Muhammad has been a registered member of the Nation of Islam since 1990. She has been working in the field of Audio Visual since 1999. She worked for Swank Audio Visual for several years as the Audio Visual Coordinator in Tampa, Florida. She became one of the members of the Tech Team in Memphis, TN under the Tutelage of Bro. Marticus Muhammad in early 2008. She also was a part of the Tech Team of the Tsunami Prayer Line in early 2008. She was a member of the Audio Visual Tech Team during our Holy Day of Atonement and the Saviours’ Day Conventions for several years under the Direction of Bro. Ademah Muhammad. She has recently joined the Closing The Gap Broadcast Team under the Guidance and Foresight of Bro. Student Minister James Muhammad.
